Yes, you can play and eat food! Although, playing with your food is a whole other story. But we’ve got plenty of merchandise to support the first idea! This Disneyland Merchandise Update has new ways to take food on the go, plenty of new plushes to hug, clothing for every member of the family, and more. Plus, we’ve got some heartening news of a change in Disney’s toy packaging, perfect for the recent celebration of Earth Day!
Fun with Foodstuffs
I really like the simple yet energetic style in these new food and drink containers. There are thermoses, sized for kids and adults, a bento box-like storage container, a soft-sided lunchbox, and even a travel tumbler. Depending on whether you are drinking or eating what is inside the the container, the wording on the outside is different. For drinks, it says “Play, Drink, Repeat.” And if food is inside, the message is “Fun, Eat, Repeat.”
Another Disney-themed grab-and-go food storage option is this neoprene lunchbox. The art on it mixes Mickey and the gang with traditional kitchen objects, like a kettle or apron, with a Disney twist.
These mugs have Disneyland Resort landmarks on one side and Mickey’s or Minnie’s face with a family role (parents, grandparent) on underneath. We spotted Dad, Grandpa, and Grandma. I am positive there is a Mom one lurking around somewhere as well.
Playthings for the Kid in All of Us
Celebrating life’s big moments with a commemorative plush sounds like a wonderful idea to me. And Mickey and Minnie are now available dressed in cap and gown, ready to honor the graduating class of 2021. You’ll note the year is also printed on the top of the cap.
There are also some new plush dubbed the Small Eyes line. It is characterized not only by the plush’s small eyes but the usage of multiple textures of fabric. We have so far found Meeko, Pooh, Bambi, and Dumbo in this style:
From small eyes to large craniums, here is the new Big Head Marvel plush line. To my knowledge, it only includes Black Panther, Captain America, and Groot but with the opening of Avengers Campus in June, I can’t help thinking more heroes will be added shortly.
In other Marvel toy news, April’s Wishables series is Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout. Within the mystery bag, you’ll find either Groot, Starlord, Gamora, or Drax. Rocket is available outside of the bag.
And the Big Feet line of plushes received a new addition in the form of a puppy (presumably Lucky) from 101 Dalmatians.
The plush redesigns of rascally chipmunks, Chip ‘n Dale, made their way to the Disneyland Resort. If you sailed on the Disney Cruise Line in 2019 or later, you will likely recognize this style (sans sailor outfits).
We revealed the nuiMOs plushes and outfits released this month in the previous Merchandise Update but now, the toys are available at World of Disney! This month’s release included Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger plushes along with outfits from two collections, Disney Retro and Electric Festival.
Love these Looks
The Disney Dress Shop has a new frock in stock. It is themed to the Disneyland Resort and is part of a merchandise collection called Play in the Park. The print on this garment is covered with images of Mickey and his friends in different ride vehicles, along with other Disneyland icons sprinkled in for good measure.
Back at World of Disney, several new pieces of Star Wars apparel have landed. Items include several shirts (both long and short-sleeved), hats, and face masks.
And if it’s Disneyland-themed shirts you are after, we’ve got you covered there, too. I particularly like the one with beginning of Walt’s dedication speech for the park on it: “To all who come to this happy place, welcome.”
Beyond the Disneyland women’s shirt seen above, here are two more new ones. The first features Rainbow Unicorn from Inside Out. The second one is sleeveless with four differently-colored classic Mickeys running across the front.
Since the temperature is starting to heat up, sleeping in pajama shorts sounds awfully appealing. Options include a classic Mickey print, shorts covered in castles, and one with tons of Mickeys and Minnies on it.
This hat has embroidered art of the Partners statue with a castle backdrop. I bet it would look great with any of the new Disneyland shirts.
Kid’s Clothes that are Nuts and Out of this World
This time around, kids get two different clothing collections. The first one includes several particularly colorful Chip ‘n Dale pieces.
The second is themed to Toy Story’s aliens. There is plenty here to go “oooooh!” over, that’s for sure.
Odds & Ends
The Chip ‘n Dale plushes aren’t the items to get a redesign. The Donut Ear Headband traded its pink frosting and blue bow for vanilla glaze and pink bow. I think it is an improvement.
Loungefly gets a little emotional with this Inside Out mini backpack. The accessory is covered with art of the movie’s characters and has a zipper pull that looks like a pile of core memories.
Disney has a new wave of themed door openers for those who feel a little hesitant to touch public door handles. They are joined by a new item called a utility keychain, which combines a door opener with a key ring on a reel to attach to your belt or bag. These new releases are packaged on a backer card. The utility keychains are also covered in a plastic sleeve.
Princess Packaging Goes Plastic-Free
I could not be happier to announce that Disney’s Classic Princess Dolls will now come in plastic-free packaging. The new packaging is not only reusable as storage, but is made of sustainably sourced paper, and the art is printed with soy-based inks! This is a great step by Disney towards a greener, more ecologically responsible future. Disney shares more info on what you can expect from this new packaging:
As you saw in the video, there really was no plastic to be found package-wise. Finally, the dolls are not attached to the boxes by those annoying little ties, which always seemed to damage the doll’s dress, leaving holes in the fabric upon removal. There are also no plastic display windows. I know that some people may feel concerned by this at first. I can already hear the cries of “But how will I know what the doll will look like?” Well, photos of the doll are printed on the boxes front and I imagine that Disney will utilize one of those display windows so potential buyers can see them in all their princess-y glory.
Currently there are 15 dolls with this plastic-free packaging. They include Anna from Frozen 2, Elsa from Frozen 2, Ariel as a Mermaid, Ariel in her wedding gown, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Merida, Moana, Mulan, Pocahontas, Rapunzel, Snow White, Tiana, and Tinker Bell. These toys are currently available at Disney Stores and Walt Disney World as well as on shopDisney. They’ll also arrive soon at the Disneyland Resort.
